FAP 444 Advanced Preceptorship in Family Medicine Care
The Ambulatory Care Clerkship is an educational experience in which a medical student spends a block of time with one or more physician preceptors in a family medicine setting. The primary goal of the clerkship is to develop the student’s knowledge and skills with common medical problems. The clerkship in a community site is also an important means by which the student will see the family physician as a role model, and will experience the scope and flavor of Family medicine. This clerkship is strictly outpatient.
FAP 469 Hospital Clerkship in Family Medicine
The Hospital Clerkship is a residency-based experience. Student participation includes seeing patients in the Family Medicine Clinic, attending rounds and staff meetings, developing close resident-student interactions, and having the responsibility for inpatient care. This experience is valuable as it allows the student to assess potential residency programs, and at the same time, allows the hospital staff to learn more about the students who may be applying to their programs. This clerkship is mostly inpatient, but can have an outpatient component.
For all medical students:
Before we can grant you a rotation, we need you to submit three documents (no application will be considered without all three):
I. Part 1 of your boards (USMLE or Comlex accepted, photocopy okay);
II. A copy of your transcripts (unofficial or official); and
III. “Application Cover Sheet” (attached separately) including a personal statement explaining why you would like to complete a family medicine rotation at UC Davis.
These documents can be faxed to (916) 734-2060, mailed to Amy Mellin, UC Davis School of Medicine, 4610 X Street, Suite 3126, Sacramento, CA 95817, or emailed to amy.mellin@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu.
After you have turned in the above documents, the approval committee will review your application. We will notify you of your approval or denial within two weeks. Please be aware that we cannot schedule your time slot until this step is completed and you have been approved.
