Pediatrics (8 Weeks)
The Pediatric service consists of three to four residents per month. Four core faculty pediatricians and several family physicians provide excellent teaching. Inpatient services consist of an average of four to ten patients at a time, and the pediatric clinic and hospital nursery are busy. Hospital rounds are conducted in the Newborn Nursery and Intensive Care Nursery. This is followed by rounds on inpatients, and then pediatric clinic begins at 10 a.m. five days per week. Afternoons are divided between continuity and pediatric clinics, seminars, and inpatient activities. Call is every fifth to seventh night. An average of two pediatric clinics per week are replaced with subspeciality clinics in Pediatric Neurology, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Orthopedics, Pediatric Pulmonology, Pediatric GI or Genetics. Residents certify in neonatal resuscitation during their three years of training.
