Surgery (6 Weeks)
Residents rotate on Surgery during their first and third years. This team works closely with our staff surgeon, Dr. James Hongola. The day begins with daily inpatient rounds taught by Dr. Hongola or one of the community surgeons. Three days a week the residents meet to have a short didactic session with Dr. Hongola. They then go to our surgery clincs to see pre-operative and post-operative patients. They also do small office procedures, such as lump removal, skin excisional biopsies, and breast lump biopsies under the supervision of surgeon or a plastic surgeon. Third years also learn vasectomy on this rotation. Call is every fifth to seventh night.
