Medicine (8 Weeks)
There are generally two teams, each with a first, second and third-year/senior resident, and one attending. The third-year residents serve as medicine chiefs for the teams. The attending coverage for the first team is provided by core Family Practice faculty. The second team is supervised by dedicated internists who are members of the DMC Hospital Service - Internists. Morning report is intended to review patients of the post call team, and is attended by our Cardiologist. The on call team makes bedside rounds with their attending. Our core faculty intensivist makes rounds in the ICU each weekday. Specialty consultants are drawn from the community. We have a broad base of different specialists who are used at the resident's discretion. Residents are on call every fourth day and each resident cares for the patients he or she admits, whether admitted to the ward or ICU/CCU. Residents are not assigned to clinics on the day of call or the day post call. The Residency service is capped for total patients and daily admissions to ensure the best balance of workload and learning.
