Applicant Welcome

Welcome to Redding! We've done our best to make sure your interview day is interesting and informative as well as relaxed and enjoyable. The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the Board Room with an Orientation/ Overview discussion with Dr. Bland (Program Director) and Penny Bell (Program Coordinator). You will have personal, one-on-one interviews with faculty members and residents as well as group tours of the hospital and the family health center.

We interview on Thursday and Fridays (but we can schedule other days, if neccessary) and residents will host Thursday evening a get-acquainted dinner. While not required, this is a great way to meet our residents on an informal basis. We are pleased to provide one night's motel accomodations to our applicants.

Please note that we do our interview scheduling through UC Davis to make things easier for applicants who are applying to several UC Davis programs. Applicants may contact us directly with any questions. Please call 530-225-6090.

At lunchtime we have an "Applicant Session" where all our residents have the opportunity to sit down with you and informally exchange information and answer questions.

 

Directions

From the Freeway: Exit from I-5 to westbound Highway 299. The Highway will end and turn into Shasta Street. Follow Shasta Street as it winds through the downtown and crosses the railroad tracks. Turn left onto Court Street. Turn right on Placer Street. Go up the hill and turn left on Airpark at the top of the hill. Follow Airpark until you reach the hospital. It takes about 10-15 minutes from I-5 to the hospital

From the Airport: Exit from the airport parking area and turn right on Airport Road for 3.6 miles. Turn left onto the CA-44 West ramp. CA-44 West becomes Highway 299 West, which will end and turn into Shasta Street. Follow Shasta Street as it winds through the downtown and crosses the railroad tracks. Turn left onto Court Street. Turn right on Placer Street. Go up the hill and turn left on Airpark at the top of the hill. Follow Airpark until you reach the hospital. It takes about 20-25 minutes from the airport to the hospital.

General Interview Agenda: This is a general agenda for Interview day at Mercy Redding Family Practice Residency Program. It will begin at 8:00 am and end at 2:00 pm at Mercy Medical Center. There will be a specific schedule in your packet when you arrive for the interview.

7:55 am – Arrive at the hospital and meet the coordinator in the lobby.
8:00 am – 8:30 am – Program director will speak to all of the applicants in the board room.
8:40 – 11:15 -The applicants will be taken to interview rooms or on a hospital tour, depending on the number of applicants. Each applicant will be interviewed by the program director, a resident and a faculty member.
11:15 – The program director will take the applicants on a driving tour of Whiskeytown Lake and the local area.
12:15 – Attend the noon conference and eat lunch from the cafeteria.
1:00 - Applicant session with the residents.
1:35 - Tour of Mercy Family Health Center
2:00 - Interview day is complete.

Special Notes
Applicants who are staying at the Best Western Hotel the night before the interview should have breakfast at buffet. Hotel check out time is 11:00 am so be sure to check out of the hotel before you drive to the hospital for your interview.

Drive to Mercy Medical Center and meet Penny Bell, Residency Coordinator in the front lobby. There is a sitting area to your left as you enter the hospital with a model of the hospital.
